Bassoon

Andrew Watson studied at the University of Glasgow with Alison Green and at the Royal College of Music with Sarah Burnett, Andrea de Flammineis and Martin Field. In 2009 he held the position of co-principal bassoon with the Southbank Sinfonia. As a freelance orchestral musician, playing both bassoon and contrabassoon, he works regularly with several of the UK’s leading orchestras including the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, BBC Symphony Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra. Other orchestras that he has worked with include the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra and Britten Sinfonia.

Andrew teaches bassoon at Tiffin School, Tiffin Girls’ School and Kingston Grammar School and he has held the position of woodwind coach with the Thames Youth Orchestra since 2008. He works regularly as a deputy bassoon teacher at the junior departments of both the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, and he has coached the double reed players of the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain. In 2014 he was the bassoon tutor at the Dartington International Summer School, to which he will be returning in 2015, and recently he has been involved in projects coaching current members of the Southbank Sinfonia.
