In the second of two concerts alongside players from Sinfonia Smith Square marking some of this year’s many composer anniversaries, we celebrate Berio’s famously diverse tastes and wry wit with his Beatles arrangements, here played alongside a selection of his intimate and touching Duos. McCabe’s Brass Quartet cuts an imposing profile, whilst Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro – originally commissioned by Érard to publicise their pedal harps – transcends its commercial origins with music of great beauty and originality.
