Adès’ Piano Quintet has quickly become a modern classic, its volatile mix of dizzying virtuosity and touching pathos conjuring an Alice-through-the-looking-glass world of Schubertian grace. It is joined by Turnage’s distinctly un-Schubertian This Silence, written for the same performing forces as the Viennese composer’s famous Octet, and Michael Berkekey’s effervescent Clarion Call and Gallop.
