Chamber Sessions: London chamber music courses

A non-residential weekend course in London giving amateur string and wind players the opportunity to play large-scale chamber music side-by-side with members of the Berkeley Ensemble

Begun in 2023, the Berkeley Ensemble’s non-residential chamber courses in central London go from strength to strength. Join our mailing list to receive updates on upcoming courses, and find out more below.

  • Courses usually run over one weekend, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.
  • The majority of the sessions will be spent rehearsing music for large chamber ensembles, working side-by-side with members of the Berkeley Ensemble towards a public performance of selected movements on the final afternoon.
  • Previous repertoire has included Gounod’s Petite Symphonie for winds and Max Bruch’s Octet for strings
  • The schedule also includes an informal performance class: receive feedback on solo repertoire (an accompanist is provided) from members of the Berkeley Ensemble.
  • Optional opportunities to socialise with fellow participants include a pub trip on Friday night and course dinner at a local restaurant on Saturday evening.
  • Suitable for advanced amateur musicians who have substantial chamber music experience (minimum ABRSM Grade 7 or equivalent).

The course price includes all tuition and rehearsal refreshments. Accommodation and main meals are not included, although there is a selection of cafes, restaurants and accommodation options nearby.

We also run a residential chamber music course in Somerset.
