Walter Willson Cobbett was a philanthropist of great importance during the early years of the twentieth century who helped to forge a British school of chamber composition from Bridge to Turnage and beyond. During the forthcoming series at the Forge in autumn, the ensemble chart a journey through the pieces he inspired and launch a new competition in the spirit of his pioneering work. This launch event gives audiences and composers a chance to meet the players as they perform classical and contemporary works for mixed chamber ensemble from the very first Cobbett winner, Hurlstone’s Phantasie, to the group’s recent first commission, Berkeley’s effervescent Clarion Call and Gallop.
